How to Create a Pre-Authorised Payment on mPOS

Last updated Mar 31, 2026

A pre-authorised payment allows a business to temporarily reserve an amount on a customer’s card without immediately capturing the funds. The authorised amount can later be captured once the final payment amount is confirmed.

This is commonly used for:

  • Security deposits
  • Pay-later transactions
  • Reservations or bookings
  • Orders where the final bill may change

Enable Pre-Authorisation on mPOS

Before creating a pre-authorised payment, ensure the feature is enabled.

  1. From the mPOS Home Screen, tap Settings.
  2. Locate the Pre-Authorisation option.
  3. Toggle Pre-Authorisation ON to enable the feature.

Once enabled, the Pre-Authorisation tile will appear on the home screen.

Guide 2: How to Capture a Pre-Authorised Payment on mPOS

Once a payment has been pre-authorised, the merchant can later capture the authorised amount from the customer’s card.

You can capture:

  • The full authorised amount, or
  • A partial amount, depending on the final bill.

If the captured amount is less than the authorised amount, the remaining balance will automatically be released back to the customer’s card.

Steps to Capture a Pre-Authorised Payment

  1. From the mPOS Home Screen, go to the Pre-Authorisation section.
  2. Locate the authorised transaction you want to capture.
  3. Select the transaction.
  4. Tap Capture Amount.
  5. Enter the amount you want to capture.

You can enter:

  • The full authorised amount, or
  • A partial amount
  1. Tap Confirm to complete the capture.

Payment Confirmation

Once the payment is captured:

  • The transaction status will update to Captured.
  • A payment confirmation message will appear.
  • You will have the option to print or email the receipt to the customer.
