How to Create a Pre-Authorised Payment on the Business App

Last updated Mar 31, 2026

Overview

A pre-authorised payment allows a business to temporarily reserve an amount on a customer’s card without immediately charging it. The authorised amount can later be captured once the final bill is confirmed.

This feature is useful for:

  • Deposits or reservations
  • Orders where the final amount may change
  • Pay-at-venue scenarios
  • Security holds for services

1. Open the Pre-Authorisation Option

From the Business App Home Screen, tap Pre Auth.

You will be taken to the Create Payment Link screen.

Enter the required details:

FieldDescription
Link Reference NameInternal reference name for the payment link
AmountAmount to be pre-authorised
ExpiryValidity of the payment link in days (maximum 70 days)
Link DescriptionDescription or purpose of the payment

After entering all required details, tap Create Payment Link at the bottom of the screen.

The system will generate a payment link.

On the next screen:

  • Copy the payment link, or
  • Tap Share to send it directly to the customer.

You can also tap Done after copying the link.

A QR code will also be generated on this screen, which can be scanned by the customer to open the payment page.

5. Customer Completes the Authorisation

When the customer opens the link:

  • They will be redirected to the Stripe payment page.
  • The customer enters their card details and completes the payment.

Once the payment is completed, the pre-authorised payment is successfully created.
